Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme Local municipality won a prestigious Kamoso award at a function held at Birchwood Hotel in the East Rand last week.
The Kamoso awards were launched in 2007 with the aim of rewarding public bodies and non-state organisations for excelling in terms of implementing the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) during the 2011/12 financial year. Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme won this award for excelling in the implementation of the Expanded Public Works Programme.
The Executive Mayor of Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality Councillor PV Malatsi said Council and Administration were very focused on and working constantly towards improving municipality’s potential for the future using smart, sustainable and environmentally sound planning principles. Malatsi said smart planning will lead to a brighter future for Dr Pixley KaIsaka Seme local municipality and its residents.

Area wide fires last weekend in which 11 year old Lindokuhle Hadebe from Perdekop died were largely under control by the municipality and the farming community Acting Director Community Services Mr Sam Ngwenya said.
The fires destroyed thousands of hectares of grazing land, livestock as well as a human being, alluded Sam Ngwenya.

Councillor Esther Mapaseka Thwala, affectionately known as Sister Passy is the Councillor representing Dr Pixley kaIsaka Seme Municipality at the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
Mapaseka believes that leadership is vital both for the success of an organisation as well as fostering relationships with other stakeholders in the community.

There is much needed to be done to improve the quality of education and that lack of parental engagements in schooling activities was a contributing factor of poor results, said MEC for Human Settlements Siphosezwe Masango.
Addressing scores of educators and schools principals in the Wakkerstroom and Volksrust circuits, Masango said educators must focus primarily on effective teaching, assessment strategies, classroom management skills, content expertise and other teaching skills and knowledge.

After the week of the Executive Council’s visit in Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality, the Premier and Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme municipality’s Executive Mayor, Cllr PV Malatsi opted instead to go with Mandela 67 minutes initiatives and reach out to community via various projects, which most of them involved renovations of schools in ward 6, Perdekop.
The municipality and its components were involved in campaigns including cleaning cleaning and painting.
